The spiral retaining ring is rolled from flat metal wire, heat-treated and surface-treated, with good elasticity and toughness.
The retaining ring is a kind of thing that acts on the parts and plays a fixed role. It is widely used. The following is an introduction to the spiral retaining ring and the retaining ring for shafts.
The spiral retaining ring is an industrial accessory that can function as support, buffering, braking, height adjustment, and angle adjustment. The inner diameter of the retaining ring for the shaft is slightly smaller than the diameter of the assembly shaft. When the retaining ring for the hole is selected, the outer diameter of the retaining ring is slightly larger than the diameter of the assembly circular hole. The retaining ring mainly serves the role of axial fixation. The surface plus the retaining ring is fixed with a high degree of centering.
At present, the installation methods for the spiral retaining ring are:
- Most of them are installed with retaining ring installation pliers.
- Simple installation aids
- Automatic retaining ring installation machine.
The disadvantages of these installation methods are that
- If the manual installation is uneven, the elastic spiral retaining ring will deform plastically, which will cause the elastic retaining ring to fail;
- It cannot be positioned for complex structural parts, and the production efficiency is also low. Simple installation Auxiliary tools are only suitable for the parts to be installed, which are generally not universal and have limitations;
- The automatic elastic spiral retaining ring installation machine has a complex structure and a high cost.
Spiral retaining rings are different for shafts and holes. Their structural features are: the elastic retaining ring for the shaft is a kind of retaining ring installed on the shaft groove, which is used for positioning and fixing of shaft end parts, and can withstand severe vibration and shock loads, but it is necessary to take anti-loosening measures and installation positioning; the hole is installed in the circular hole with an elastic retaining ring, which is used for the axial movement of the fixed parts. The outer diameter of this retaining ring is slightly larger than the diameter of the assembly circular hole.
The shaft retaining ring is a kind of axial movement installed on the grooved shaft and used as a fixed part. The inner diameter of this type of retaining ring is slightly smaller than the diameter of the assembly shaft. When installing, it is necessary to use circlip pliers, insert the pliers nose into the pliers hole of the spiral retaining ring, expand the retaining ring, and then put it on the pre-machined shaft groove. Conventional packaging is packaged in batches of oil paper or plastic, and the surface is generally blackened by phosphating, commonly known as a wild card. There are several aspects that need to be paid attention to in the production of shaft retaining rings; one is that the surface is flat; the other is that the hardness and elasticity are qualified; the third is that there should be no corner burrs.
What are the classifications of the spiral retaining ring?
- Self-locking ring
Self-locking circlips are ideal for applications with high rotational requirements. This feature allows the retaining ring to operate normally at speeds beyond the recommended rotational capacity. Self-locking options can be integrated for outer and inner retaining rings. The self-locking feature utilizes small protrusions in the inner layer to “lock” into grooves in the outer layer. Self-locking allows the retaining ring to operate at high speeds, withstand vibration, operate under rapid acceleration, and absorb some degree of shock load.
- Multi-layer sealing ring
The multi-layer seal retaining ring is a metal crankshaft seal, which consists of multiple retaining rings in a groove. This ring arrangement and its specific orientation are based on the harshness of the application and environment.
Seal device components to prevent contaminants from entering;
Provides a large number of configurations;
metal-made; non-rubber, neoprene, or other non-metallic materials
Resistant to high temperatures and corrosive environments.
A wavy circlip is a helical circlip with an axial wave. It acts like a standard circlip but with the added function of compression. It compensates for the entire length tolerance of the stacked assembly while still acting as a circlip. The assembled wavy clip will reduce looseness and vibration in the unit.
The contoured circlip is designed to fit into the groove; it exerts pressure in two directions: the groove wall and the device components. Contoured circlips can be single, double or multi-layered in a variety of materials, including our standard 17-7 PH stainless steel and carbon steel.
- Equal-section retaining ring
Because the cross-sections are equal and there is no protruding ear portion of a traditional stamped retaining ring, it is also called an earless retaining ring. The Earless retaining ring and the spiral retaining ring have similarities in production, processing, and use characteristics. They are both flattened and wound with steel wire. After heat treatment and surface treatment, they have good elasticity and toughness. The Earless retaining ring is divided into two types: shaft use and hole use, and there are various forms of tail ends to choose from.
Constant section rings (snap rings) are often specified for heavy duty or shock-loaded applications.
With edge winding and no custom tooling fees, snap rings have been specified as the standard choice for engineers in the automotive and heavy equipment industries for many years.
