Smooth edge elastic retaining ring

Product Description

Description:

Constant section retaining rings feature a uniform, constant section. This means that the material used to make the ring is the same width at any point along the circumference of the ring. These cost less than tapered and spiral retaining rings and provide only three point contact with the groove.

The smooth elastic retaining rings are produced by a unique edge winding process. This process can provide precise and flexible solutions to the needs of a variety of circlips in different working conditions. Compared with the traditional elastic retaining ring, punches and molds must be used in the production process, and the size of the parts is relatively fixed. The smooth elastic retaining ring can flexibly modify the diameter of the part without changing tools through the edge winding process, with higher flexibility, greater practicability and wider coverage. The production of smooth elastic retaining ring is more cost-effective than traditional retaining ring. Only the required flat wire material is wound during the edge winding process, which virtually eliminates every possible material waste.

The smooth elastic retaining ring is different for shafts and holes. Their structural characteristics are: the smooth elastic retaining ring for shafts is a kind of smooth elastic retaining ring installed on the shaft groove, used for positioning and fixing of shaft end parts, and can withstand severe vibration and Impact load, but need to take anti-loosening measures and installation positioning; the hole is installed in the round hole with a smooth elastic retaining ring, which is used to fix the axial movement of the parts. The outer diameter of this type of retaining ring is slightly larger than the diameter of the assembly round hole.

A retaining ring, also widely known as a smooth elastic retaining ring or snap ring, is a fastener made of metal that fits in a groove on a shaft or in a bore or housing to retain a component. These devices hold parts in place with a lightweight, compact design that does not require extensive machining operations compared to other fastening techniques.

The smooth elastic retaining ring can vary in size from 1mm to 1m in diameter. Various combinations of shapes, styles, sizes and materials can even lead to designs that perform efficiently in a variety of applications and industries. In a standard car, for example, there can be as many as 50 retaining rings in the system consisting of steering, safety equipment, powertrain, and more.

Smooth elastic retaining rings can also be used in several other applications such as wind turbines, fitness equipment, bearing fixtures, door handles, bicycles, gas stations, office furniture, and many more.

The main reason for using retaining rings is to provide a seat or simply a shoulder to stop an assembly or subassembly from falling out of the housing bore or shaft.

Installation method of smooth elastic retaining ring:

  1. Most of them are installed with spring retaining ring installation pliers;
  2. Easy to install aids;
  3. Automatic retaining ring installation machine.

Advantages of constant section retaining rings

  1. No assembly/disassembly lugs = space saving in radial direction;
  2. Edges with radius, no stamping burrs;
  3. Square edge wire for sharp-edged installations;
  4. No special tooling for exotic materials;
  5. No special tooling for installing and removal necessary;
  6. Conform to DIN 471/472;
  7. Higher ring shear;
  8. Special ends for specific applications;
  9. Heavy duty sections for higher rotational capacities.

Classification of retaining ring bearings

Flat retaining ring: A separable substantially flat washer whose inner or outer portion serves as a radial cylindrical roller bearing outer or inner ring rib.

Inclined retaining ring: a separable ring with an “L”-shaped section, the outer part of which acts as the inner retaining edge of a radial roller ball bearing.

Middle retaining ring: A separable ring in two or more row roller bearings used to separate and guide the rollers of each row.

Ribs are narrow shoulders that protrude from the raceway surface parallel to the rolling direction and are used to support and guide the rolling elements and keep them in the bearing.

The use of retaining ring bearings

The fixing of parts on the shaft is divided into axial fixing and circumferential fixing.

Axial fixation methods include: shoulder or collar fixation, shaft end retaining ring or conical surface fixation, shaft sleeve fixation, round nut fixation, and elastic retaining ring fixation.

The retaining ring mainly plays the role of axial fixation, in which the conical surface and the retaining ring are fixed with a high degree of centering.

The retaining ring of the rolling bearing is equivalent to a movable retaining edge, which is used for retaining the rollers and is convenient for installation. The structure of the retaining ring includes a flat retaining ring, an inclined retaining ring and a middle retaining ring.
